Off road or race silencers increase performance but don’t meet the noise and emission standards in most counties. It is a popular modification to fit an illegal race exhaust to a motorcycle for a number of reasons; lighter weight, greater noise and more power seem to be the most popular. Of course vanity plays a part in this also which has led to many exhaust manufacturers making extremely stylish carbon fibre and titanium cans in a variety of shapes and sizes. The baffling in a road legal can is usually very complicated and adds greatly to the overall weight but recently several companies have designed a removable baffle that can turn a race can into a nice quiet road can that passes the required tests to be given type approval. The benefits of this are lighter weight, more choice and no legal issues. Recent changes in the rules for MOT now let the tester pass any silencer they feel is quiet enough regardless if it has an E mark or BS stamp.

NEC Bike Show
Well its here again. The good old NEC bike show. Are you going? it has been getting smaller and smaller over the last few years and from what i hear some of the main manufactures are not even going to be there this year. Still, its more than likely going to be filled with cheap helmets so thats OK.
I miss the good old days when it used to be a bike show and not a giant market stall.
Sorry to sound so negative but i have just been reminded that it took us 6 hours to get there from London last year. Arrrrgh.

If you are luck enough to have a bike engined kit car then the Pipercross air filter is something you need if you are trying to gain more power or if you just need to dump the original airbox. An alloy plate to mount to the carbs and a foam filter to flow lots of air safely without the danger of sucking in debris that can harm your engine. To suit most 4 cylinder bike engines. Neil Hodgson signs for Yamaha
Slowly we are seeing what the grid is going to look like in BSB next year. No disprespect to the riders this year but in my opinion this year was lacking on top talent. The dominance of the Airwaves team i think proves this.
Neil Hodgson, former BSB and WSB chamion has signed for Motorpoint Yamaha for 2010. I do hope they are going to get better machinery next season, that bike was not as quick as the Airwaves bike this year. Its great to have Neil back in the UK though.
What do you reckon? Kagayama – Hodgson battles?

End of the season
Well, another year of Moto GP is over and once again Rossi reigns victorious. A close fought battle this year with Lorenzo showing that he is a potential world champ of the future. And despite his error on the warm up lap, Stoner looked very strong after his mid season holiday. A very speicial ride from Spies on the Yamaha test bike which bodes well for next season. And well done to Colin Edwards for being top privateer.
Aoyama did all he could to throw away his 250GP title but in the end it didnt matter after Simoncelli crashed in the closing laps of the race.
Well done to Simone finishing the 125GP season with a win. Our very own Bradley Smith has confimed he is staying with Aspar in the 125′s next year and has a good chance of a world title as long as he doesnt get any taller.
Already looking forward to next season, a bigger grid for the premier class is mouth watering. Shame there wont be any brits.

Battery Chargers
Battery chargers
Motorcycle batteries require periodic maintenance especially if left unused or attached to accessories such as an alarm. It is unlikely a battery would last more than a few years anyway but to make sure you don’t arrive at your motorcycle one morning to find it doesn’t have enough voltage to turn the starter motor it is recommended you use a battery charger. Many types of charger are available but it is advised that motorcycle batteries are charged using a “trickle” or “low amp” motorcycle battery charger such as an Acumen Black Platinum.
