The morning of the last day of the BSB season and for the second time this weekend Shake Byrne has crashed in warm up. Luckily for him he was able to remount and continue back to the pits covered in mud apparently unharmed. Although his chances of the title are gone Shane will for sure be wanting to put on a good show for the fans. Today will for sure be exciting. Still a relatively new concept but quickly becoming an essential item for almost any motorcycle. Imagine you have just purchased a new Fireblade and whilst riding it home you accidentally fall off on some diesel, your bike slides down the road in front of you, as you pick yourself up and stagger to your bike you notice the clutch lever and footrest have snapped off and there is a dent in your frame where the handlebar hit it. Many of us have a similar story to this one. If your bike has a set of frame protectors (aka crash protectors, crash bobins or crash mushrooms) it would have landed first on those, keeping the bike higher, possibly even stopping the handlebar from touching the floor, maybe the frame protector took the full weight of the bike and the footrest only has a scratch on it. You pick the bike up to see the scratches on the bellypan but you are able to ride the bike home. Wow, that just saved you a lot of money and hassle.
I have to say that Chris Martins superman impression at Brands Hatch is one of the things that sticks in my head from this seasons racing, and believe me i watch it all.
Having just seen pictures of him at Croft this weekend i now feel bad that i actually enjoyed watching it happen.
Poor bugger, he looks like his whole upper body is being held together with meccano.
Get well soon Chris.
Wow, he got a bit lucky not to get hit on the head. Good thing he did it after the race had finished. I hope he doesn’t do that with his Moto GP bike next season. I expect Paul Denning is getting worried.
